Mehmet Polat is a renowned ud player, composer and bandleader. His music has, for many years, drawn on a variety of rich musical traditions: from Africa to India, and from Persia to the Balkans. Polat’s musical background results in jazz with an adventurous, innovative but above all warm sound.
Tarek Abdallah, with his concept of ‘Wasla’, reflects on the Golden Age of Egyptian music. Working with Bayati, Rast and Sikha, three modes of classical maqams, he conjures a unique sound from his ud.
