De groep combineert nog steeds soul en country, maar in plaats van Gaffney’s tragere Stax-achtige soul, slaat Barfield een meer funky, uptempo richting in (zijn bijnaam is niet voor niets “The tyrant of the Texas funk”); ook zijn volle stem maakt het verschil. Maar de Stone River Boys zijn niet zomaar the Dap-Kings met cowboyhoeden; het blijft bovenal country!
