De Engelse progressive-metalband TesseracT is een van de pioniers in de zogeheten ‘djent’-stroming, ofwel progmetal met complexe, polyritmische structuren. Toch is het werk van TesseracT niet alleen voor afgestudeerde musicologen, integendeel. Mede door het toegankelijke stemgeluid van de huidige frontman Daniel Tompkins word je snel in de muziek getrokken en voor je het weet sta je polyritmisch te headbangen. In 2021 verscheen het virtuoze livealbum (zonder publiek, want corona) Portals, dat ook uitstekend dienst kan doen als ‘best of’-plaat. Een vijfde studioalbum komt eraan!
