Montreal's Sean Nicholas Savage is a self-styled "balladeer" and, according to some observers, a proud waver of the "freak flag". Savage has a gift for writing flamboyant, often uncompromising songs with a cavalier twist.
Weyes Blood (aka Natalie Mering) often reduces her musical message to the bare emotional essentials; it seems everything has to contain some form of elemental truth. Counterbalancing this emotional honesty, Mering conjures up a sound redolent of the dreamiest, most pastoral psychedelia.
