NoMeN was founded in September 1999 by drummer Peter and bass player Kars. They played in several rockbands (Tsunami and Scophile) in the North of Holland. In 1999 Peter and Kars found the guitarist they were searching for. Leo van Gilst! He's a big riff-orientated guitarist and also working on percussion rhythm stuff on his guitar.
To put NoMeN's music in a genre is quite difficult, but you could say it´s a mix between technical metal, groovy rock. NoMeN's music can be named as: Math-Metal. (Mathematical Music). NoMeN was inspired by the music of Sweden's Meshuggah, Faith No More, B-Thong, and the album "Special Defects" of guitarist Fredrik Thordendal.
The band started off with no singer, but after a couple of singers who came on audition, NoMeN decided to search for the guy they really wanted to have, (as the face of the band). That wasn't very easy… after two and a half years the band finally found their singer: Jaap. That was in December of 2001
