Loch Vostok

On the ashes of the progressive and melodic Swedish band Mayadome, Loch Vostok has risen. Taking the best progressive elements and adding semi psychotic influences, this new act is close to invent a whole new style of heavy metal music. When Mayadome broke up, Teddy Möller, Sebastian Okupski and Erik Grandin decided that their musical careers were not about to end. They soon began creating new music, with Teddy changing from the drums to the role of vocalist and guitarist. With the addition of drum talent Alvaro Torres (5steps Ahead, Imperial Domain) and guitar shredder Niklas Kupper (Ramrod, elpresidente, 5steps Ahead), the band was a reality. When Erik decided to leave the band, he was replaced by bass player Tomas "Tym" Jonsson, and the current line-up took shape. At the end of 2002, Loch Vostok entered the DugOut studios with producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, SYL, Ocean Machine, Dragonlord) to record their first full length album entitled "Dark Logic". The songs are all loosely conceptual, based on the lives of serial killers Henry Lee Lucas, Andreij Tzjikatilo and Ed Gein, and the stories are told from an introspective view. The music is perhaps easiest to compare with the avant-gardism of Cynic, the progressiveness of Dream Theater, the black metalish assault of Emperor and the sheer power of Agent Steel and the melodic death metal of Soilwork. Lake Vostok is actually an existing lake. It lies deep under the ice cap of Antarctica. The band took on the name of this eternal lake, this freezing and untouched place with it's pure and fresh water, and indeed it fits their music best. Loch Vostok sends the chills down your spine from the moment that you are engulfed by their fantastic music.
