Uit het Schotse Glasgow komen de zussen Anna, Sheila en Clare Friel, maar met familie diep geworteld in het Ierse Donegal, net als hun muziek, vertolkt op viool, fluit, uilleann pipes en gitaar – bindende factor is de zang zoals alleen zussen dat samen lijken te kunnen.
Altan’s Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh zei: “The Friel Sisters’ music cannot be held back; it is what comes natural to them. They breathe music, they live music, they love music. Traditional Irish music is in a richer place for having these young genuine people carry it on to future generations”.
The Friel Sisters hebben al wereldwijd opgetreden, en deden gastoptredens met acts als Altan, The Chieftains, Cherish the Ladies, Solas en Fidil. Hun titelloze debuutalbum stamt uit 2013.
